Keystone Heights Presbyterian Church was founded by Pastor Ed Teague on October 15, 1989, under the name of “Chapel of the Lakes.” While serving as youth pastor of another church, Ed felt God’s call to preach the gospel, and was moved to start a non-denominational church.
Chapel of the Lakes began holding service in a rented building in downtown Keystone Heights, Florida. In order for the church to accumulate funds, Pastor Teague remained bi-vocational. After a few years, the church was able to purchase three acres and build a sanctuary during 1995. The first service in the new sanctuary was held on Christmas Eve, 1995.
During 1998 the church underwent a name change when it became a Florida corporation, “Keystone Heights Presbyterian Church” (KHPC).
After a few more years the church purchased a little over five more acres of land for potential growth. The church building doubled in size by adding Sunday school rooms, a nursery, the pastor’s study and a kitchen. Some contractors were hired to complete the construction of the new facilities; however, the men of the congregation provided a great deal of the labor. In addition, the men built a pavilion for recreation and a small building adjacent to the church for children’s church and Sunday school classes.
For seventeen years Pastor Teague faithfully shepherded his flock. Through studying God’s Word, the five points of Calvinism and the Westminster Confession of Faith he came to believe in a reformed view of the scriptures, which is still the foundation of the churches beliefs. Pastor Teague was taken home on September 25, 2006.
Today, Keystone Heights Presbyterian Church is a member church in the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, led by Pastor Rob Ham.
